Two spectators come up on stage, the performer standing between them. One picks a card from the deck without looking at it. The card is placed face-up in the facedown deck. The performer turns his head so he can’t see the cards. The cards are then spread in the performer’s hands so one spectator can see the reversed selection and the backs of the other cards; the other spectator sees the rest of the deck.

“One of you can only see one card. Memorize that card. One of you can see all the other cards — think of any one of those. Keep silently, mentally repeating your selected card to yourself.”

The performer squares the deck and faces the audience. Without any fishing or equivoque, he names the reversed card and the freely thought of card.

Double Duty is:
