RNG
This is the strongest routine I have created to date. You can open with any shuffled deck effects, perform RNG, and finish with Out of this World, Oil & Water with a full-deck separation kicker, or maybe a red/black Gilbreath-style routine. RNG is a pseudo-ACAAN effect but it secretly allows you to end with the deck separated into Red & Black.
Business As Usual
An impromptu business card effect (or even a scrap piece of paper) that allows you to temporarily take away someone’s free will. You will learn a new concept that you can adapt to many routines ideas.
Intuition Test
A highly interactive effect where a spectator answers several questions on the back of a business card. Despite the complete freedom, you are able to reveal all the answers that were predicted before they started within the business card itself.
Driver’s Instinct
In creating this effect, I set several criteria:
- I wanted something I could easily carry in my wallet.
- I wanted something that was not a card trick.
- Most importantly, I wanted an effect I could teach someone if the opportunity presented itself.
- And, a bonus – at the end of the routine, this person would have my contact information.
Driver’s Instinct meets all four of these criteria.
If you’ve been around this green giant for a while, you probably know I’m a huge Ryan Schlutz fanboy. His work meshes so well with my style that I end up loving everything he comes up with.
If you haven’t heard of False Anchors, you’ve been missing out on some of the best small booklets full of big ideas. This is the fourth volume in the series. This time, Ryan has decided this will be done by preorder only. In other words, it won’t be for sale anywhere after the 250 booklets are claimed.
This book is a bit different from the others because all of these tricks are done with specially printed business cards. (Think of the “Real Secrets” series.) Here are the descriptions of each effect in Ryan’s words:

Ryan shared RNG with me some time ago and I thought it was genius. It is a very strong ACAAN effect which secretly separates the deck despite the spectators shuffling everything throughout. It is very deceptive and it certainly fooled me when he performed it for me over video chat. Just imagine how much more fooled you’d be seeing it in person. It’s great and it requires no culling or anything of that nature. Typical Ryan: Simple but effective. P.S. This one is riddled with false anchors.
Business as Usual is a great take on a classic card trick which eliminates the cards entirely. This is the only trick in the volume that uses a normal business card rather than a specially printed one. You could do this trick in a restaurant or bar at a moment’s notice with a business card from the business. It’s incredibly versatile and hard hitting.
Ryan performed Intuition Test for me at Magi-Fest in 2020. It was brilliant. One business card is used and you get three hits all out of this one card. They use their intuition and they correctly intuit a correct number, a correct card, and a correct coin toss.
Driver’s Instinct is a fun and simple trick all self contained in one business card. As you read above, Ryan designed it as something to teach other and it is great for that. It’s simple to do, but don’t let the simplicity fool you, it WILL fool your spectator’s. Often we magicians forget just how powerful this method is for a laymen. Plus this version is wrapped up in a cute presentation which makes it fun and highly interactive.
What can I say other than if you’re a fan of Ryan, you need this and if you’re not, you need this.
