“Lucky Charm” is a multi-phase card routine that delivers one astonishing moment after another—no luck required, just guaranteed impact. This is the kind of effect that leaves audiences reeling, with so many magical moments packed into a single routine, it almost feels unfair.
There are two main ways to perform “Lucky Charm”, each with its own surprises.
In the first version, you introduce a regular deck of cards, but with a twist: every card has a hole punched in the corner, and when the deck is squared up, you can see straight through it.
After shuffling, your participant stops you at any point to select a card, which they alone peek at. The hole in their chosen card is confirmed to be genuine, and then the card is lost back in the deck.
Next, you bring out a shoelace, which the audience can examine. You thread the lace through the holes, suspending the entire deck. With a gentle shake, one card visibly melts off the shoelace and drops into your hand, Of course, it’s their selected card.
For the finale, you tear off a corner of this card, and then make the torn piece vanish right in front of them. You ask if your participant knows who the patron saint of magic is. With a wink, you reveal a black leather cord around your neck, and hanging from it is the missing corner of their card. You remove the cord, let them take the corner, and it matches perfectly.
As a final kicker, you point out the hole in the torn corner, have them rub it, and the hole vanishes—yet the corner still matches their card!
The second option takes things up a notch. This time, two cards are chosen, examined, and lost in the deck. The shoelace is threaded through as before, and the first card melts off in dramatic fashion. But when you try to repeat the effect with the second card, the entire card is suddenly found hanging from the cord around your neck—an impossible, visual finish!
“Lucky Charm” is packed with magical moments and playful surprises from start to finish. It’s a routine that’s as much fun to perform as it is for your audience to experience.
